The Great Wall Marathon
China

The Great Wall Marathon in China is considered to be one of the most challenging runs in the world, with steep ascents and descents consisting of thousands of steps over one of mankind's greatest monuments.

The Great Wall itself spans 6000km across China. The marathon takes place in the Huanyaguan section of the wall in Ji county, in the northern province of Tianjin, north of Beijing.

The marathon route also takes runners through picturesque villages and rice fields, which I'm sure will be a welcome respite from the 5164 stairs of the Great Wall.
